To heal and affirm all bodies through customized therapeutic touch.
About
Mission:
To heal and affirm all bodies through customized therapeutic touch.
Vision:
A community where everyone, especially fat, trans, and/or queer people, can knowledgeably care for their bodies in service to feeling joy and ease.
Values:
1. Quality: I provide the best care I can. I engage in continuing education to stay current in my field. I work within my scope of practice, and only perform work I am qualified to do.
2. Safety: I honor your unique body and health situation to design only therapeutic and non-harmful treatments. I do not provide massage when it could be reasonably expected to harm you. I maintain a clean, sanitary environment where clients of varied health circumstances can feel confident receiving treatment.
3. Dignity: I welcome and affirm clients of all sizes, genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, nationalities, faith affiliations, abilities, and circumstances of health and immigration. I do my best to understand and respect your cultural needs during our interactions, and welcome feedback about how I can help make you feel comfortable receiving massage.
4. Privacy: I safeguard the confidentiality of your information, including medical and personal information, the fact that you are a client, and any information shared during the session except where medically necessary or required by law.
5. Body Respect: I show respect and reverence for each client’s body, and all kinds of body tissue, through my words and my touch. I honor the trust that clients place in me, and promote appreciation and liberation for all bodies. I ask for consent before performing bodywork.
6. Client Experience: I personalize each massage to align with your goals and preferences. I check in during the session to ensure your comfort and invite your communication at any time. I emphasize client education so you can keep caring for your muscles after you leave, and refer to other health professionals when appropriate.
7. Honesty: I accurately represent my qualifications and limitations. I conduct my business fairly and in accordance with the law.
8. Healthy Boundaries: I require healthy boundaries of myself and others. I engage in reasonable scheduling and self-care to maintain my physical and emotional well-being, out of respect for my own humanity and to provide you with the best possible service. I will not engage in any conduct of a sexual nature with a client, and will not accept sexual conduct (verbal, visual, electronic, physical or otherwise) or other inappropriate conduct from any client. Violation of these professional boundaries will result in immediate stoppage of the session without refund, dismissal from being a client, and possible referral to law enforcement. I do not “friend” clients on social media nor develop personal friendships with those I first met as a massage client.
About Laura McAndrew, LMT, MPH
Long before I was a massage therapist, I was a chronic muscle and fascia pain patient. Massage was supportive for me in the toughest times, and I’m honored to share what I’ve learned – as a therapist, client, and patient – to help you care for your body.
My massage style is slow, flowy, relaxing and effective. My techniques are rooted in a blend of Swedish and Myofascial Release. I love to provide both deep and/or lighter work, and anything in between. I’m also trained in Neuromuscular Therapy, sports massage, pediatrics and infant massage, oncology massage, and prenatal. I have special expertise in alleviating muscle pain of the neck, upper back, and head.
My “first” career as a public health educator focused on health equity and LGBTQ+ health. We know many “wellness” resources have excluded or been hostile to those with marginalized identities and experiences. It is my hope and intention that whatever your body size and shape, whatever your gender, and whatever else makes you who you are, that you will feel validated and comfortable here. Thank you for trusting me with your bodywork experience.
